Honoured to Support
HSSCU is honoured to be involved in the new COVID Commemorative Wellness Garden at the Mater Hospital. The garden features five bronze statues arranged in a socially distanced circle, with each figure reflecting emotions ranging from resilience to sorrow. As the sunlight shifts, their shadows form a living sundial, symbolising the passage of time and inviting quiet reflection. Surrounded by nature, the garden offers a peaceful space for remembrance, healing, and renewal.
HSSCU was proud to be one of the main contributors supporting the cost of these sculptures. The memorial garden and statues were created to honour those who lost their lives to COVID 19.
At The Unveiling
HSSCU CEO Sean Hosford and HSSCU Director Geraldine Higgins attended the official opening ceremony at the Mater Hospital in Dublin. Speaking at the event, Sean Hosford said:
“When we were approached to get involved, we felt it was a very poignant cause to support. It was an immensely difficult time for everyone, but particularly for those in healthcare, who make up the core of our membership. They were on the front lines of the pandemic, and it is important to commemorate that, as well as those we sadly lost.
The idea of having a wellness garden at the hospital—where people can take a moment, is something that was needed. Through our support, the hospital was able to acquire wonderful sculptures that carry a strong message and are beautifully crafted, helping to elevate the entire space.
We are honoured to be involved and to continue our long-standing relationship with the Mater Hospital. We look forward to many more years of support.”

The COVID Commemorative Wellness Garden is located beside the Rock Wing extension at the Mater Hospital.
