Security Policy

HSSCU has a responsibility to protect from disclosure to unauthorized parties the personally identifiable information (name, address, date of birth, account number, etc.) of its website users. Therefore, HSSCU has adopted and implemented a website security policy to protect account information of its website users.

General

The Members Area utilises several layers of technology to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of its transactions across the Internet. SSL Protocol (Secure Sockets Layer) ensures that data cannot be read by other computers as it travels between your browser and our server. Digital Certificates allow you to verify that your browser is communicating with our server and not another server posing as our server. username, PINs (Personal Identification Numbers), Pass Phrase and other personal details are also used to verify your identity. In order to provide an online accounts service on the Internet, it is necessary for information to securely pass between your computer and our server. You will only be asked for your account number on the Member registration screen. You can provide your account number to the CU but you should not provide your PIN or Pass to them.

You will never be asked for your PIN or Pass by anyone from the Credit Union.

All contact from the CU should be either from the CU directly (email or phone), through the online accounts messaging system or in some case from the CU systems provider WCS. None of these correspondences will ask for your secure details.

The Secure mailer sent to you will have no reference to the CU on the outside and will have a Northern Irish post mark.

Username

You are required to create a Username when registering for the online accounts service. A Username should be easy to remember but not something which is directly linked to you or your account.

We recommend that you do not use:

  • Your Account Number
  • Staff Number
  • Pay Number

Your Username can contain letters and number and should be at least 6 characters in length.

Pin

Your Pin number will be issued to you via a secure pin mailer. This should be changed to one of your own choosing as soon as possible.

If you lose your PIN report it to your CU immediately and request them to issue you with a new PIN. The new PIN will be different to the old PIN.

Your PIN must be 8 digits in length and can not contain letters. The Pin can not be longer than 8 digits.

Password

When registering you must create a Password. This is your security password for the site and should be alphanumeric. Please pay particular attention when creating this, try to avoid including spaces in your password.

Your password can be reissued to you by email if you loss it, however it will be a new Pass Phrase not the old one which is sent. You should change the password immediately after receiving it by email to maintain security.

The password must be at least 8 characters long. While the creation process will allow you to create a 6 character password, the system would then prompt you to change this to an 8 character one when you login.

Dealing with the Credit Union

Members should not give their details to the CU when trying to resolve login problems. The CU should be able to inform you which of your details you are entering incorrectly, through the reporting feature of the site, they will not however be able to see you PIN or Pass.

Best practice is to request a reissue of your PIN or password based on the feedback provided by the CU on the login error.
